There’s something extra special about the six-month milestone. Babies at this age are endlessly curious, full of personality, and starting to show those first glimpses of who they’re becoming. They smile with their whole face, giggle at the silliest things, and light up when their parents are near. As a photographer, it’s one of my favorite ages to document because there’s such a mix of tenderness and playfulness – moments that make for the most timeless, valuable images to a family.
These little glimpses of babyhood – the chubby legs kicking in excitement, the tiny fingers reaching for mom’s hair, the wide-eyed wonder as dad held her up in the air – are exactly why I believe milestone sessions are a must.
The first year moves so quickly.
One day you’re holding a sleepy newborn, and in what feels like the blink of an eye, they’re sitting up on their own, playing with their toes, and reaching out for you with a big grin. Photographing these stages allows you to pause time, if only for a moment, and have something tangible to hold onto as the years go by.
What I love about milestone sessions is that they can be as simple and relaxed as you want them to be. For this family, the studio was the perfect setting – light, airy, and calm. Mom chose a soft floral dress from my client wardrobe, which paired beautifully with her baby girl’s delicate romper and bow, also from my client wardrobe.
