Are you looking forward to your Nashville newborn session during your little one’s early days? Creating a comfortable and relaxing environment for both you and your baby is the best way to ensure you have the portraits you’re hoping for. Here are some my favorite tips to consider:
1. Dressing for Success:
When it comes to newborn photography, comfort is key. I recommend dressing your baby in zip or snap-up clothing. Avoid anything that needs to be pulled over their head for removal. Babies can be sensitive to outfit changes, and pulling clothing over their head can disrupt their comfort, especially if they’re asleep upon arrival, which I can usually keep them asleep if so.
2. The Power of Bath Time:
On the morning of your session, consider giving your baby a bath. Bath time not only is soothing for newborns, but also tends to tire them out. This can result in a more relaxed and sleepy baby during their photography session, making it easier to create those sleepy, peaceful moments.
3. Keep Those Bellies Full:
A well-fed baby is a happy baby, and that’s what we aim for during the session. Before leaving for the studio, try to feed your baby as much as possible. However, please keep in mind that I am flexible and can pause the session for feeding whenever you or your baby needs. Your baby’s comfort and well-being are my top priorities. Be sure to pack any extra bottle feeding, pumping, or breastfeeding items you might need while away from home. We can warm breastmilk or formula at the studio and have an entire full kitchen for your needs.
4. Awake and Ready:
To achieve those serene, dreamy shots, it’s a good idea to keep your baby awake as much as possible on the morning of the session. Avoid letting them snooze for extended periods. We want your baby to be extra sleepy during their time in the studio, which can lead to those sleep portraits new parents are hoping for.
5. Embrace the Moment:
Most importantly, don’t stress! My goal is to photograph the personality of your newborn on that particular day. If the above recommendations don’t align with your baby’s routine or needs that morning, or are causing stress, it’s perfectly okay to let them go. I want you to come to the studio feeling calm and relaxed because babies tend to mirror our energy and your mood is reflected in your photos as well.
Remember, your newborn’s portraits will naturally reflect their unique personality and the mood of the day. There are no rigid rules to follow, and I’m here to accommodate your family’s needs and ensure a smooth and happy experience. So, let go of any worries, and let’s create your newborn portraits together.
